Accessibility
A menu is there for every guest: with poor eyesight, with a screen reader, in a dim café. Here is what we do for that.
Our standard
We build to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, level AA, the standard behind the European Accessibility Act (EN 301 549). We test with the keyboard, at 320 pixels wide, at 200% zoom and with automated checks.
What we do
The menu uses large type and strong contrast in light and dark mode. Allergens never appear as an icon alone: the name is beside it or read out. Every page has headings, a skip link, a visible focus and respects 'reduce motion'.
Reading comfort
With the button with the figure you pick a profile or choose what helps: larger text, more contrast, colour correction, more spacing, a readable font, underlined links, a reading guide, read aloud and less motion. Your choice stays on your device.
What isn't perfect yet
The texts on a menu are written by the venue itself; a missing translation appears in the venue's own language, marked for screen readers. Printing table cards works best in a browser on a computer.
